Allergy Treatment

We offer allergy consultations to review your spring and summer allergies.

Hay fever is the common name for allergic rhinitis . Hay fever is caused by the nose and/or eyes coming into contact with environmental allergens, such as pollens (grasses, weeds or trees), dust mite, moulds and animal dander

Most people associate hay fever with spring, when airborne grass pollens are at their peak however it is usually worse between late March and early September especially when it's warm, humid and windy as this is when the pollen count is at its highest.

Hay fever symptoms can include:

  • sneezing and coughing
  • a runny or blocked nose
  • itchy, red or watery eyes
  • itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears
  • loss of smell
  • pain around your temples and forehead
  • headache
  • earache
  • feeling tired

If you have asthma, you might also:

  • have a tight feeling in your chest
  • be short of breath
  • wheeze and cough

Kenalog also known as Triamcinolone, is a synthetic corticosteroid which is a hormone that works within the body to reduce inflammatory responses. Kenalog is administered as an IM injection in the top of the buttock.

Kenalog MUST NOT be the first line of treatment for hay-fever and must only be considered when symptoms are severe and not controlled by other methods. We  always carry out a full consultation prior to advising whether this is an appropriate treatment method.
